People who would like to install a new cabinet inside their kitchen should first be aware of the proper process of the installation of the cabinets. One small error during the installation process might force you to repeat the entire process all over again. A lot of guides and tutorials can be found on the Internet which will provide a detailed explanation regarding how the kitchen cabinets need to be installed. The person who has decided to replace all the cabinets in his kitchen will feel the need to install new cabinets. People who are satisfied with the existing kitchen cabinets and they only want to change the look of the kitchen can decide to reface their cabinets without replacing them completely. This is a more financially feasible option when compared to replacing the entire batch of cabinets.

People who are interested in replacing their kitchen cabinets since they have the required finances can get some ideas from their friends who have performed the same procedure in their own homes. A person who has not had any prior experience in this field also can perform the process of replacing the cabinets in his kitchen. The Internet is a storehouse of information on such subjects. It will also provide guidance on the right kind of materials and equipment which need to be bought in order to replace your kitchen cabinets. But it is also important to know the right method of handling and usage of all the tools and materials after they have been purchased. When the method of usage is not properly known it can result in a half-finished job. The kitchen cabinets will not get installed in an easy and stable manner.

In such a scenario any person is likely to require the services of a professional who has plenty of experiences in the field of installing cabinets. He will have all the right knowledge regarding what kind of materials need to be used and exactly how they should be used. They also possess the capacity to correct the mistakes made by people who have tried to install the kitchen cabinets on their own and they have failed miserably in the attempt. Some people make the mistake of using the wrong kind of tools while installing the door hinges and sometimes the screws may not have been fit in the right manner or they may not have been drilled in the right manner.

The first step to be done by any person who is trying to install the kitchen cabinets is that he needs to assemble the cabinets before they get mounted onto the assigned wall. This will help in marking the positions of all the nails and screws after which the top cabinets can be installed. Once this step has been completed, the remaining parts of the kitchen cabinets can be taken one by one and installed and the entire process of installing the cabinets can be completed in this manner.

People who want to replace their old kitchen cabinets with new ones should have a clear idea about the task which lies before them and they should get adequate guidance otherwise they could end up spending a lot more money than they anticipated.

Although this aspect of kitchen cabinets seems quite un-interesting, the paint that is applied on the kitchen cabinet has an extremely important role to play. The paint of your selection is like a fashion statement to all those who see your kitchen. How the cabinet looks is another important influencing decision in this regard. So you must consider if the paint you select and the design of the kitchen cabinets is an attractive combination

Painting the cabinets in the kitchen involve a number of differing procedures. If you have decided to paint the cabinets yourself, then be sure to check and consult the many tutorials available online. When you start, be sure to follow all the steps very carefully to avoid any mistakes and wastages. Painted cabinets for the kitchen come in great variety. They range from cabinets with a natural finish of oak lime to ones with a paint finish that is antique.

If you are operating on a low budget, giving your kitchen cabinets a paint job yourself is not such a bad idea. There are plenty of video tutorials available online along with many articles and write ups that provide useful hints and tips.

The primer is able to bond very well with the wood’s surface. It does this even better than what the paint would do by itself. But be sure about the kind of primer you will be using, if you have a top cover with latex paint, go in for a primer that is shellac based. After the surfaces have been primed, the doors of the cabinets look quite terrible. But this is just a part of the entire procedure. You actually have a brilliant foundation on which the top covering can be applied. Try using a pneumatic sprayer for the doors of the cabinets, the knobs and the other surfaces. This gives a wonderful, glossy and smooth finish. Ensure that you do not accidentally spray any of the paint on the hardware, hinges or anything surrounding the cabinets. Try to stay within your budget and avoid any excess and unnecessary expenditure.
You can have additional coats, but this will depend on what you require. At times you get the best results if you apply three coats and at times two coats turn out to be sufficient. This is especially in case of woods that have a grain that is heavier such as oak wood.

Painted cabinets for the kitchen come in many varieties and kinds. There are some which on addition to being painted can also have their accessories or look changed such as in the case of glass and aluminum cabinets. But at the conclusion of it all, a woody look that is natural tends to look best.

For several years, it seemed as though every kitchen cabinet in the world was painted in some variation of white or in a creamy yellow color. Then, natural woods dominated the world of cabinetry. For a while, a dark stain was preferred. That was replaced by a preference for something lighter. The whites re-emerged as a favorite. Now, things are different. You aren’t limited to natural wood or pastel colors. If you want a bright green kitchen, you can have it. If you want to make a bold statement, you can install red kitchen cabinets!

Red kitchen cabinets? Absolutely. Red is a statement color. It doesn’t whisper. It yells. Sometimes, that louder voice is exactly what a design needs, too. When you’re ready to build a kitchen that doesn’t try to “blend in” so much that it nearly disappears, you should consider ditching those dull taupe cabinets in favor of a vivid red hue. Red could be just what you need.

Red kitchen cabinets aren’t just for those who want to find a way to create that louder design statement, though. They’re also a part of some popular themed presentations. The “diner look” is a perfect example. Many people would love to capture the look and feel of a prototypical 50s diner in their kitchens. That’s easy to do with the right appliances, counters, floors and cabinets. Imagine what your kitchen could look like with a checkerboard floor, stainless steel appliances and cabinet hardware, a formica-like countertop and bright red kitchen cabinets that match perfectly with the upholstery of those chromed bar stools you put in the breakfast nook! Impressive!

Red cabinets may not be for everyone, but they can accomplish things that colors that are more traditional can’t capture. They can breathe life and character into a design that may otherwise be too safe and dull. They can become part of a larger look or theme, too.

Styles and tastes change. Things that seemed wildly out of place to one generation may be perfect for another. The dark oak stains of the 1970s are an anachronism. The pastels and off-whites that have been part of kitchens for decades are moving in that direction, too. People are looking for something brighter, more fun and even a little dangerous in design terms. Red is the ideal color and highly visible kitchen cabinets are a great place to let the color show.

Red kitchen cabinets make a bold statement. If that fits with your aesthetic preferences and design plans, don’t hesitate to make liberal use of this hot primary color. You’ll create a memorable, attractive kitchen space that’s happy to announce its presence instead of trying to hide somewhere in the back of the house.

The comparison between framed and frameless kitchen cabinets often focuses on aesthetics and appearance. Well, the presence of a differently colored frame and a kitchen cabinet without any frame will look different.

However, aesthetics is not the only factor involved. One must also consider functionality. How can the presence or absence of a small frame make a difference to the functionality of the cabinet?

Well, the presence of the frame enables manufacturers to often go in for thinner and lighter side boards. This means that you can save money if you go in for kitchen cabinets with frames.

However, frameless cabinets do not have any exterior support and must be self contained. Manufacturers preferred err on the side of caution and go in for thicker side boards.

This will increase rate but enhance a stability and make the kitchen cabinet last longer. Now, you will agree that this has nothing to do with aesthetics or appearance. It is complete functionality.

Secondly, you will find that the actual space available to store stuff in the cabinet is more if you go in for a frameless cabinet. This is because the age of the frame often overlaps the space available inside the kitchen cabinet. This means that the individual will have a few millimeters space extra as compared to a cabinet with a frame.

For those who have purchased an oversize utensil and electronic accessory for the kitchen and who discover that they just cannot place it inside the cabinet, this can make a huge difference.

Of course, you cannot judge or guess the various accessories and products you will be purchasing in the future. Hence, it is advisable to go in for frameless cabinets because it gives you that slight extra space.

Of course, aesthetics, although secondary, is not completely unimportant. Frameless cabinets often have the same color as that of the cabinet itself. There is no odd looking frame that that juts out and reduces the appearance of the cabinet.

But for those who like to work in a stylishly designed kitchen, this will be a very important factor. Since the shelves and cabinets are unavoidable in kitchen, going in for a properly framed cabinet or going in for a frameless cabinet is a very big decision to make.

To understand the pros and cons better and to go in for the best possible frameless kitchen cabinets, you should make use of the internet. Irrespective of whether you buy stuff online or not, you should definitely consider the internet as a research tool.

Living with distressed kitchen cabinets can be tough. However the essence of distress has crept deep into our hectic turmoil full lives. A bit of gleam does a wonder. If you have a kitchen the original way: with wood all over, a bit of class a bit of struggle as well if I may add.

Though all these old boys need is a bit of cleaning and wiping with a moistened cloth and a clean wipe afterwards. Once in a blue moon you may choose to apply a bit of detergent or soap depending upon the level of distress.

All the way whenever I come across a distressed kitchen; I can’t but help feel it reflects the state of the mind. In a way it’s vice versa. So if keeping the kitchen clean is an easier alternate to the idea of removing or rather ridding the riddle in our lives it is worth the effort.

Liquid Cleaners

One must however remember that one must not impart the detergent cleaning on a regular basis. One should alternatively be on the lookout for a liquid non abrasive cleaner. It is not for the sake of your hands but the cabinets. These will be as effective as vinegar and water which I may add is an acid will eat away at the wood in time. So do not listen to your grandmother once and try out something else. If it does not clean them well enough it will not hurt them either.

Kitchen Cabinets and Cleaning Them

It is good to know that these days we do have a lot of cabinetry with coatings on them specifically designed to prevent damage from abrasion and corrosion. This makes cleaning them a bit hassle free. A simple cloth with some warm water might just do the trick, and a bit of non abrasive cleaning agent will do the trick for the dirt and spills.

Protecting kitchen cabinets is a bit on the easier side. A bit of easy care will not only keep them shinning but will also prolong their life. A clean swipe with every spill a bit of finer precision while pouring liquids will save a lot of time. A bit of effort might be put in lifting things rather than just dragging them across would save a dime a day for sure. A bit of patience is all we need; a bit of effort will work wonders. I guess distressed finished cabinets will only be a minor problem or cease to even be so.

Living with distressed kitchen cabinets is a thing of the past. Pro Shot® Cabinet Restorer & Protector restores and protects distressed kitchen cabinets. Easy wipe on, let dry formula makes it a perfect do-it yourself home improvement project. I want to link them to http://www.proshotcorporation.com/pro-shot-cabinet-restorer

So, your ugly kitchen needs a face-lift!

It’s ok, kitchens age. If you feel your kitchen is stuck in a time warp and is holding your soul prisoner to it’s outdated, worn, drab feng-shui…fret not. We have more selection available to us than we’ve ever had in the history of kitchens.

The choices for kitchen cabinets in Toronto and the rest of North America in general are simply mind blowing (yay Capitalism). Where do you start?

First things first, how much space do you have in your kitchen? Are you willing to knock a wall or two down to increase the space? How will that affect the adjoining rooms?

Once you’ve made up your mind about the space you need, the kitchen cabinets are the next item to consider. They are the focal point of the room, the most functional element of the kitchen and basically the “thing” that every other item of your kitchen “wraps around”.

What you choose will either make or break the deal.

There’s really 3 choices at your disposal:

#1- If budget is the main criteria, drop by IKEA, Lowes, Rona and Home Depot. Cabinets are sold in individual pieces, stock measurements and you can mix-and-match with enough variety to get you from A to B for the most economically sensible option. Downside being, you’re limited in the selection. Box frames are laminated, and your only “upgrade” is usually solid doors. Don’t kid yourself, new cabinets are new cabinets and even with this option you can make a dramatic upgrade to your kitchen so if you have a tight budget you still have options.

#2 – Budget is still a criteria, but you just got a bonus at work:). GREAT! Now your options have multiplied umpteen times (I love “Umpteen”…no math involved). There are a plethora of manufacturers out there that sell stock cabinets using “good” quality materials with enough “upgrade” options to give your kitchen the 100k look, without the 100k price tag. Crown molding, faux pillars, architectural trim, panelling, higher grade hinges/closers, and on and on when cleverly designed can make your new kitchen the subject of envy of all of your friends and neighbours. Consider option 2 as the “gates to the field” have opened up for you. Enjoy the bounty that awaits you in available options.

#3 – Custom Cabinetry…Who are we kidding, when is budget NOT a criteria? But say you just got a bonus at work… Consider this as the gates to HEAVEN opening up for you. The sky is the limit because now we’re talking custom. Not peasant like restrictions of stock measurements/materials (I kid). You can get any material, in any dimension, with custom trim and the highest grade hinges, pulls, closers, shelves, etc. We’re talking hand cut joinery where a single cabinet door can be 10+ pieces individually cut/joined. We’re talking a truly ONE OF A KIND kind of kitchen. NOBODY else in the world will have the exact same kitchen cabinets as you…pfft…friends and neighbours who?

If you’re in the Option 3 category, you need a designer and you need a custom cabinet maker. I’m not going to lie to you, a lot of people claim to be custom cabinet makers. Sure, if custom kitchen cabinets means your cabinets come out looking like 50 other people’s cabinets…not so custom. For a truly unique design, you need a master cabinet maker at your disposal so bypass the showrooms and the big outfits.

There are a lot of custom kitchen cabinet makers, so make sure you look around and try to find a smaller shop with lower overhead. Big outfits function off of production, which means templates and a range of selections that are often recycled and reused. Find the small outfits…That’s where you tend to find better deals and the true “Custom” experience.

Whatever option you choose, planning is key. This is something you don’t want to rush into. An intelligent decision based off budget, layout, material selection and choosing the right supplier can add a great amount of value to your home. Cabinets are undeniably the most important element of any kitchen. Best of luck, may the cabinets you choose bring you years of functional and aesthetic pleasure.

New Yorkers don’t move to New Jersey to have a small apartment with a small kitchen. In NJ, kitchen cabinets are made of fine quality materials, in good sized kitchens, in beautiful homes. As such, kitchen remodeling is common across the Hudson.

Your kitchen should cost no less than 5% but no more that 15% of the total value of your home, with the exception of high-end kitchens for professional cooks and bakers. In the state of New Jersey, the typical percentage is at the lower end of the spectrum, at just 8%.

After the recent economic meltdown the median home price in New Jersey is now around $490,727, putting the average value of a kitchen at approximately $39,258. Since 50% of the budget for the kitchen is usually allocated for cabinetry, the average value of NJ kitchen cabinets is best priced at just over $19,500.

Another consideration to make is in the resale value of your home after remodeling. But since many New Yorkers move to NJ to retire or settle down, the resale value may not be a primary concern.

The actual budget allocated to cabinetry can fluctuate depending on whether your cabinets are stock, semi-custom, or custom made, as well as on the actual quality and materials used. When shopping for NJ kitchen cabinets, however, keep in mind that a percentage of the cost must also be allotted for installation. In New Jersey, you can expect about 18% of the total budget to go towards labor.

To avoid exuberant shipping costs, you can rely on warehouses and outlets in New Jersey that offer free shipping for some of the industry’s biggest brand names. These include Hanssem, Fabuwood, and Ultracraft among others.

Resource Box:

Direct Depot Kitchens is the ideal place to go in NJ for kitchen cabinets. Apart from their extensive showroom, with over 50 kitchen and bath displays, they also have a state-of-the-art design center that offers free design consultations on custom kitchen cabinets.

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house. It is essential for an individual or the family to prepare and make their food. This is also the place where we eat. Sometimes, though, we encounter problems with some of the things in the kitchen. One of the most common problems, especially in small kitchens is lack of or damaged storage to keep all the utensils, canned foods and other things that should be in the kitchen. This can be remedied by adding kitchen cabinets.

These are usually smaller than the usual cabinets we have in the other rooms of the house. If more than one, which is most of the time, they are usually installed right beside each other. They have one or two doors for each cabinet, with metal, glass or wood handles. Some may also be locked and some are not.

The questions that might be running through your mind are whether to make the kitchen cabinets yourself or to just buy ready-made cabinets from the store.

Buying ready-made kitchen cabinets is practical for those who have little time and/or those who have little or no experience with carpentry. It is also for those who can afford to spend money for these renovations or installations. With buying ready-made kitchen cabinets, you can choose from hundreds or thousands of different designs, colors, and materials. Besides the stores near you, you can search online for other available designs. The available cabinets for kitchen can also be very beautiful. It is just a matter of finding the right design that will match your kitchen and your taste, something that you will be proud of. Finally, when you buy and have the kitchen cabinets installed, you will save yourself a whole lot of time for other activities. If you have work, assignments or simply want to spend time with your family, pre-made cabinets and the service of a handyman can fix your kitchen very swiftly.

However, if you find yourself in a tighter budget for yourself or your house, and you know how to use tools for carpentry, you will definitely want to do it yourself. Some people who can afford new cabinets might also love the challenge of building something new. Even with little knowledge, do-it-yourself guides are available in magazines or online to assist you. Besides teaching you how to do it, you can look for ideas for designs of your cabinet for kitchen. Through it, you can have highly personalized kitchen cabinets that fit exactly what you want. You can buy new materials or just repair and/or repaint your old kitchen cabinets. If you do not have enough experience building stuff like this, you can hire someone to do it but assist with what you can do so that you will not have to pay so much.

Whether you buy or build your kitchen cabinets, make sure that they fit right in your kitchen or they will be useless. Use strong materials to have long-lasting cabinets. Design the cabinets the way you want, either the traditional way or if you have any creative ideas, do not be scared to try it, it is your kitchen. Most importantly, when everything is all set up and finished, you should learn how to organize more effectively to maximize the space you have in your kitchen.

There is a way to enhance the appearance of your kitchen and you can do that with kitchen cabinet ideas. These designs are lovely and it is durable as well. You certainly find elegance and style in these items. Or you may want to try kitchen cabinet refacing.

There are many people that would like to remodel their kitchen but are unsure what to do with those cabinets that do not have the look that they desire. After a few trips to the kitchen design center, the home improvement center, and even the discount cabinet shop, the determination has been made that replacing those ugly kitchen cabinets is just not within the budget. Therefore, the kitchen remodel is put on hold in the hopes that some time in the future will provide the funds to take on this major project. But, there is really no need to put this project off any longer since an affordable cabinet refacing can be just the way for you to get that new kitchen you are after.

Cabinet refacing can be approached one of two ways. Cabinet doors and drawer fronts can be replaced at a fraction of the cost of new cabinets. Or if your budget is really tight and even replacement of the doors and drawer fronts is out of the question, you can refinish your cabinets and still come out with what appear to be fresh and new kitchen cabinets. Refinishing your cabinets involves spending just a few hundred dollars for materials and supplies and can be accomplished in a very short period of time by even the most novice do it yourself homeowner.

While both of these processes can be great solutions to your dilemma, there are some things you need to consider before you decide this solution is for you. First, your cabinets must be structurally sound and not have any major damage. Open each cabinet and thoroughly inspect the joints to be sure they are still tightly joined and inspect the drawers to see that they still open and close smoothly. Carefully check the cabinet beneath the kitchen sink for any signs of water damage that may have occurred due to a past leak in the plumbing or drainage systems. If you find no damage or other issues with your cabinets, or at least have no major issues that are beyond repair, then an affordable cabinet refacing can be the answer you have been looking for.

Now that you have established that a cabinet refacing will fit your needs, you must decide the process you will use. If you choose to replace your cabinet doors and drawer fronts, a trip to your local home improvement center will provide you with the many choices in patterns and finishes available in modern cabinets today. The home center can also give you a price on the replacement of these items as well as the laminate refacing material for your existing cabinet boxes that is necessary to match your new cabinet doors. Consider acquiring two or three estimates from different reputable suppliers to ensure you receive the best price for your project. If you choose to simply refinish the existing cabinets, then the decision to apply a paint or stain finish will determine the exact process you will follow.

No matter which of these processes you choose for your particular project, they both will provide the look you desire. By combining an affordable cabinet refacing along with new cabinet pulls, hinges, and drawer pulls, you will have fresh and new looking cabinets that will supply a solid beginning for a total kitchen remodel that can be well within even the smallest of budgets.

One of the first rooms everyone notices upon entering a home is the kitchen. I suppose this is because some time over the years the kitchen became the gathering space in most homes since mom spent so much time in there. We have all pretty much come to understand that the kitchen is the most remodeled room in a home, again I am sure, because of the reasons mentioned above. This is also the room that is the most costly to remodel especially if the replacement of kitchen cabinets is involved. But there is no need to replace those cabinets if they are in good shape and you have no issues with the style. If this is the case, then the refacing of your kitchen cabinet doors will give you that fresh new look you are seeking.

Refacing kitchen cabinet doors is a fairly straight forward process that even the most novice do it yourself homeowner can easily accomplish. The first step in the process involves the evaluation of your present cabinetry. Assuming that you are happy with the style of cabinets you have, inspect your cabinet boxes to be sure they are structurally sound. Check all joints for tightness and drawer slides to ensure all drawers operate smoothly and close completely. Next check underneath the sink to see if there is any evidence of water damage due to leaks in the plumbing and drainage system. Now check all the cabinet doors to see if any show signs of being warped or have any other type of damage. If you discover any problems associated with any of these items, you need to first address the repairs of those problems before you move on to the next step.

After a thorough inspection of the cabinets and the completion of any necessary repairs, it is time to begin the refacing process. The first of the process involves the removal of all cabinet doors including the old hinges and cabinet pulls. Now do the same with the drawer pulls. You are going to replace that old cabinet hardware with new because after you see how nice your newly refaced cabinets look, you are not going to want to reuse that old cabinet hardware. Before you throw that old hardware away, save one hinge, one cabinet pull, and one drawer pull to take with you to the hardware store. If you locate hardware that has the same hole alignment as the old hardware, reinstalling the cabinets will be much easier. Place your hardware samples in a bag and head to the home improvement center.

You are now going to shop for your new cabinet hardware and the other supplies necessary to complete the refacing process. Once on the cabinet hardware aisle, the selection of new hardware simply involves matching up the screw holes on the old with one of the many styles of new hardware your home improvement center will offer. Next is the purchase of sandpaper, primer, paint, brushes and rollers necessary to complete the process. Consult the paint expert there for the proper paint to use and at no point in the purchase process are you to go cheap on these supplies and materials. Remember, by refacing these cabinets, you are saving thousands of dollars over the cost of replacement. Spend some of these savings on professional supplies and you will end up with a professional job.

Now that you are home with your supplies, the fun begins. Follow the simple steps I have outlined below and you will find yourself with kitchen cabinets that will be fresh and new and will have saved you enough money to replace those tired old counter tops and likely a few appliances as well.

Step 1: Clean the cabinet boxes, doors and drawer fronts with a heavy duty cleaner to remove any grease and dirt residue.
Step 2: Lightly sand these items with a fine grit sandpaper to rough up the surface so the new finish will adhere.
Step 3: Prime all surfaces and allow them to dry following the recommendations of the manufacturer.
Step 4: Apply coat one of the finish paint and allow to dry following the recommendations of the manufacturer.
Step 5: Apply a second finish coat to ensure a quality finished product
Step 6: Allow ample drying time; install the new hardware; reinstall your drawers and cabinet doors and enjoy your fresh, new looking cabinets.
